NOx emissions from nitric acid production are quite severe, often resulting in NOx emissions greater than 100 ppm. The CataStak-NA SCR System can eliminate NOx by as much as 99% and can be applied to plants from 225 to 2000 tpd.
The quantity of NO emissions is directly related to the kinetics of the nitric acid formation reaction and absorption tower design. |
NO emissions can increase when the following conditions apply:
- insufficient air supply to the oxidizer and absorber
- low pressure, especially in the absorber
- high temperatures in the cooler-condenser and absorber
- production of an excessively high-strength product acid
- operation at high throughput rates
- faulty equipment such as compressors or pumps that lead to lower pressures and leaks, and decrease plant efficiency.
The CataStak-NA can be used to control absorption tower tail gas emissions and in the presence of the catalyst, the fuels are oxidized and NO is reduced to N.
